Navigating historic preservation reviews and approvals

​Jackson Preservation can help you work through the complexities of local, state, and federal historic preservation regulatory requirements. When involved in your historic preservation project, we will file necessary permits to help you avoid fines and delays.

At the local level our regulatory review consulting includes:​​​​​​​

​

• Reviewing design and construction documents to ensure that they will comply with the preservation standards set by regulatory authorities.

• Filing permit applications, including photographs of the historic resource, samples of proposed treatments, and narratives explaining the proposed work.

• Presenting project proposals to your local historic preservation commission and other invested parties, as needed.

If state or federal funds or permits are required for work to a building that is listed or eligible for the State or National Register of Historic Places, additional preservation reviews are required. At the federal level, this review process is known as Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

 

For state and federal level reviews, we will:​

• Submit all documentation of the historic resource required by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) for project approval.

• Ensure that proposed plans do not create an adverse impact on a historic resource, which could cause the SHPO to issue a determination that may stall future permiting.
